Dr. Fixit Crack-X Powder is a blend of special cements, selected fillers, and proprietary polymer additives. The cementitious base provides strength and compatibility with the parent concrete or plaster. The polymer additives enhance the mix’s workability, adhesion, and flexibility, while the non-shrink agents counteract the natural volume loss that occurs as cement paste dries. This synergistic combination results in a dense, strong, and permanent repair that bonds effectively to the crack walls.
Primary Applications:
Dr. Fixit Crack-X Powder is the ideal solution for repairing static (non-moving) cracks on both vertical and horizontal surfaces:
- Plaster Cracks: Perfect for filling cracks in interior and exterior plastered walls and ceilings, up to 5 mm in width.
- Concrete Cracks: Suitable for repairing non-structural cracks in concrete surfaces like parapets, beams, columns, and slabs, up to 10 mm in width.
- Masonry and Brickwork: Can be used to fill cracks in brick walls and other masonry surfaces.
- Pre-Painting Preparation: Essential for repairing surface cracks before painting to ensure a smooth and uniform final finish.
Method of Application:
For a successful and lasting repair, follow these steps:
- Surface Preparation: The crack must be thoroughly cleaned to remove any dust, debris, grease, or loose particles. Use a wire brush or a scraper to widen the crack into a “V” or “U” shape for better filling. The area should then be dampened with water to a saturated surface dry (SSD) condition.
- Mixing: Take the required quantity of Dr. Fixit Crack-X Powder in a clean container. Slowly add water, mixing continuously until a smooth, lump-free, and workable paste is formed. The recommended mixing ratio is approximately 3 parts powder to 1 part water by volume. Only mix enough material that can be used within 30 minutes.
- Application: Firmly press the mixed paste into the crack using a putty knife or a small trowel. Ensure that the crack is filled completely, leaving no voids.
- Finishing: Level the surface of the filled crack with the surrounding wall or concrete. For a smoother finish, the surface can be lightly treated with a damp sponge after it has slightly hardened.
- Curing: Allow the filled crack to air cure for at least 24 hours. In very dry or hot conditions, light misting with water for the first 24 hours can be beneficial. The surface can be painted over after 24-48 hours.
In summary, Dr. Fixit Crack-X Powder is a reliable and easy-to-use solution for achieving strong, permanent, and seamless repairs of cracks in plaster and concrete, ensuring the structural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the surface.
